ARTIST STATEMENT
Hello! My name is Samantha Rumbidzai Vazhure. My painting journey was not deliberate or expected. It began when I completed my award-winning poetry collection, Starfish Blossoms. I wanted to create a marketing video for the book, with an artist painting abstract starfish flowers to my reading of the title poem. I struggled to find an artist for the task, so despite my lack of painting experience, I decided to do it myself. My neighbour, Pam, who taught Art for 30 years, spent an afternoon showing me the basics of painting on canvas. I practised on two paintings before I was satisfied I could produce the reading video for Starfish Blossoms, which you can watch here. I continued to paint after the video was done. Being a collector of fine art myself, I have always been drawn to textured prismic art. My first paintings are heavily inspired by my poetry, laced with themes on womanhood, nature and spirituality. I live in the Welsh countryside, designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and some of my paintings reflect my surroundings. My impressionist and expressionist art is vibrant and protrusive - touching and feeling strokes and daubs of acrylic on canvas is gratifying to the tactile sense, and I recommend you experience it at least once in this lifetime.

Limited edition prints are made from 3D scanned images of my original paintings, so they look textured. The high quality images are printed on acid-free, water-resistant, smooth fine art 320gsm giclee paper, using high dynamic range inks. ~Willa Cather' s quote inspired this painting on distressed/recycled canvas. The skyward lips are Fatima's, my childhood nanny who I write about in my poem Starfish Blossoms.
